Social Club

The Brunswick United Social Club is the predominant organiser of Lodge social activities.

The Club, open to all members of the Lodge and their families, is managed by a small Committee (President, Secretary and Treasurer), elected annually by the members of the Club.

The Club presently meets at Brunswick North Centre at 7.30 pm on the fourth Tuesday – February to November. The meeting conducts the usual Club administration and formulates the activity plan – usually three months ahead. A light supper (with “plates” provided by those attending) is taken at the end of the meeting (usually around 9.00 pm).

A social activity for each month is the norm! Activities range from visits to interesting sites (eg, a visit to the Flemington race course prior to the Melbourne Cup “lock-down”) or simply to have lunch at a different venue (eg, the Carriage Cafe at Seville).

Each year, at least two major functions are organised by the Social Club.

The first is the “Presentation Lunch” at which the Master-elect is formally “presented” to the members of the Lodge, their families as well as colleagues and families of other Lodges. Presently, this function, a two or three course lunch with entertainment and a raffle, is held at the Glenroy Bowling Club entertainment area – the home base of the Lodge’s caterer.

The second is the traditional “Christmas in the South”; a sit-down dinner with entertainment held at the Centre. This function is open to all Lodge members, their family and friends.
